About Rubrics Online...
The principle developer of the Rubrics Online software is a university adjunct professor. His doctoral work was in human computer interaction and he has over 20 years experience as a software engineer.
One day, after grading a stack of over 200 students' assignments, the discovery was made that it was difficult to be perfectly consistent when grading subjective papers. It was later learned that
although applying rubrics to students' papers using Microsoft Excel made the grading more consistent, it created more work than it saved.
So, a little, bare-bones program was written that allowed the user to click an option and
get a partial grade for that aspect of the assignment. Then five or six clicks later, a final grade
was established, as well as a narrative as to how that grade was reached; something
that could be given to the student. This little program saved hours each week.
That software was rewritten to run over the Web, the user interface was
improved, and now just about any instructor that grades subjective papers can benefit from its use. This is the program you are looking at now.
